Police arrested two men in connection with the fatal shooting of a nine-year-old Anaheim girl.

The shooting happened at the 2300 block of West Greenacre, near a public park occupied by several other children and pop warner teams. The child, Ximena Meza, was playing outdoors at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday with her sisters in front of her apartment complex when she was shot in the chest. She died about half an hour later at UCI Medical Center in Orange.

Police determined that two or more people in a white car carried out the shooting. Authorities said one man got out of the car and opened fire with a handgun and that the intended targets were a group of men who were gathered west of where the child was playing.

The group of men fled, while the white car sped away. Two men were identified by police as documented gang members and arrested in connection with the shooting. The two men, identified as Ricardo Cruz, 19, of Buena Park, and Alfredo Miguel Aquino, 20, of Anaheim, were taken into custody and are being held on $1 million bail.
